What happens when you take chili and combine it with a good cause? Add those two things together, and you get the 14th Annual Dam Chili Cookoff in Martindale, Texas. This popular event benefits the San Marcos Youth Service Bureau (YSB), so it’s the best of both worlds. It’s your chance to enjoy mouthwatering chili while helping a good cause.
The cookoff will be on Nov. 17 at the Cotton Gin on Main Street. Participants can enter the gates at 7 a.m., and the general public can come in at 9 a.m. The cookoff lasts until 10 p.m.
Never been to the Dam Chili Cookoff before? Well, you are in for a treat. Around 30 teams will participate in the cookoff, and they will provide a great deal of variety. Expect to find both bean and beanless varieties of chili, and the food will also vary as far as the spices. Some chili will be burning hot, and others will be mild enough for grandma to eat. Well, of course, Grandma is from Texas, so she can handle her spices, but you get the idea.
Now, you might spend most of your time sampling the chili, but that’s not all you’ll get here. The live music will start around noon, and there will also be a silent auction. There’ll be all kinds of cool items up for auction, so don’t be afraid to bid. Remember, the proceeds are all going to a good cause.
