It’s that time of the year again! Things are getting spooky, but you don’t have to celebrate Halloween to get in the spirit. Instead, come on out and celebrate Dia de los Muertos at the Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run. You’ll get to learn all about the holiday and how it’s celebrated, and you can get some exercise in the process. Isn’t that a great way to spend your morning?
The Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run will be held at the Hernandez Elementary School here in San Marcos on Saturday, Oct. 27. You need to be there at 7 a.m. to pick up your packet and register. Then, at 7:30 a.m., some opening remarks will be read, and there will be the 2018 honoree presentation. At 7:50 a.m., feel free to join in on the group warm-up, so you’ll be ready for the 5K at 8 a.m. The kids’ fun run is at 9 a.m., and the awards ceremony will follow at 9:30 a.m. After that, you have the rest of your day to do whatever you want.
Now, check out these helpful tips that will ensure you are well-prepared on race day.
Get Some Rest
How are you going to do your best on the day of the 5K if you don’t get some rest the night before? It’s very important to get a full night’s sleep before the day of the run. It will ensure you have the energy to do your best. However, it’s even better if you can get several days of good sleep before the race. Then, you’ll be up early and ready to take on the day.
Drink Plenty of Water
It’s always important to drink lots of water, but it’s imperative when you know you are going to be exerting yourself. It’s not enough to simply drink a lot of water at the end of the race. Make sure you are well-hydrated the day before the 5K. Then, continue to drink plenty of water up until the time of the race. Just ensure you’re not drinking so much that your stomach feels too full.

Fill Up with Fuel
Sleeping isn’t going to give you all the energy you need – you also have to fuel your body with healthy food. Think lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. They will give you the energy to run your best.
